| I'm really glad it's back, I had a short game just now. However I'm experiencing a problem I've had in the past that I never really completely fixed. If, for example, I tap my forward key once, then my avatar shifts forward a few steps, but then it's as if something 'drags' me back to my original position - it's the same with any of the direction buttons. On an on-going basis this produces a very 'jerky' movement that's incredibly off-putting because my cross hair bounces back and forth, and I my apparent position doesn't seem to correspond to my actual location in the game. I've tried running on OpenGL mode with the updated driver Rob pointed out previously, in 'classic' DirectX mode and in updated DirectX9 mode, and experience the same symptoms regardless - it doesn't happen if I choose Software Rendering, but then everything looks horrible I've tried adjusting my refresh rate, toggling the vsync setting, changing the 'desired frame rate' setting, the network speed setting, all to no avail. The only thing I've not tried is Processor Affinity, but I'm desperate enough to give that a go next. Any suggestions? | |

This is due to UT not detecting your CPU speed properly, or, more likely because your CPU speed shifts during gameplay. When you start UT, it records the current CPU speed and adjusts the game speed to that. If your CPU then starts changing its speed, UT will start running slower/faster and that will result in stuttering/jerkiness. The reason it doesn't happen in Software Rendering is because that's very taxing to the CPU (maximum utilization), therefor it will never change clockspeed. Read the lower part of my post here for pointers. | |

| That sounds promising (I've got a Core 2 Duo E4400 processor - apparently - so this all looks applicable), thanks for explaining that and pointing out solutions, I'll have a go later this evening. | |

| Sorry I didn't say "hi" Jesse, I was in and out of the 'preferences' screen, so UT was minimized a lot of the time. Separately, I've found that toggling the vsync setting 3 times in a row seems to settle my stuttering issue; I won't pretend to understand why this works, twice makes no difference, > 3 times doesn't seem to matter, but opening the preferences screen, changing the Rendering->vsync value, closing the dialog, and then repeating the whole process twice again appears to work for me (with the default DirectX driver). | |
